June 23, 2023.- The Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (Mitma) will soon begin work for the humanization of the west and south crossings of Soria, which correspond to the N-234 road between km 351,500 and 352,770 and the N-111 road between km 223 and 225,150 respectively. The works have an investment of 12.03 million euros (VAT included).
Within the project it is worth highlighting the following actions, without prejudice to others of lesser importance that will be carried out (lighting, gardening, urban furniture…):
- Redesign of the type section of the roadway, adopting a strict lane width to free up space of the current type section to devote it to non-motorized uses.
- Execution of some sections of a bike lane with a double sense of circulation.
- Expansion and consolidation of the sidewalks along the route of the crossings, improving pedestrian accessibility.
- Complete milling of the roadway and extension of new layers of sound-absorbing agglomerate.
The humanization of the crossing leads to the transfer of this to the City of Soria, as it has no function of service to long-distance traffic and has an eminently local character, passing the City Council to be the new responsible for its conservation and maintenance as the owner of the road.
The cession of this section, which currently belongs to the State Road Network, will not impair the continuity of the state road network or the functionality of the latter since there are better alternatives for long-distance traffic.
Recovery Plan, humanization of journeys
The Recovery Plan, through Component 1, plans to invest 105 million euros (VAT not included) in humanization actions of crossings, such as those that have begun in Soria.
This contract, which is financed from European funds, shows the change in road policy in favour of sustainable and active mobility, so that it will improve road safety for pedestrians and cyclists on the crossing, as well as its accessibility.
The objective is to generate, in relation to the State Road Network, a more accessible, inclusive and sustainable urban environment that helps decarbonize urban mobility and improve air quality.
