A group of ten CRE users have lived the experience of water baptism in the facilities of the municipal swimming pool of Trobajo del Camino (León), where they were guided by components of the Specialist Group on Underwater Activities of the Civil Guard (GEAS), unit of the Civil Guard responsible for the search and rescue of people, the location and recovery of objects in the aquatic environment, among other missions.
The participants in this aquatic activity have been able to experience the sensations under water, try the diving equipment, compensate the ears and, know what it is like to be immersed under the water breathing with a bottle of air, in short, feel like a true diver.
The subdelegate of the Government in León expressed his gratitude to the components of the GEAS that have collaborated in this activity, “because they are not only experts in aquatic activities, but they have a special sensitivity to carry out this type of playful and therapeutic experiences with people with disabilities”
Faustino Sánchez Samartino also thanked the collaboration of the City Council of San Andrés del Rabanedo, in ceding the use of the municipal swimming pools of Trobajo del Camino, and the involvement of the director of the CRE, Mayte Gutiérrez Fuentes, who stressed that adapted sports activities, in addition to the physical benefits for health, offer participants “illusion and hope that they can adapt to different circumstances, of course with the support of technical staff.”
This activity has been possible thanks to the collaboration of five members of the Special Group of Underwater Activities of the Civil Guard of the XII Zone of Castilla y León, based in Valladolid, coordinated by Corporal Julián Torres, who pointed out that this type of day “changes our routine. It gives us great personal satisfaction to be able to help and see the joy you provide to the participants.”
To perform this experience, individual diving equipment has been used in order to avoid contact and possible contagion. At the end of the dive, the GEAS awarded a diving diploma to the baptized.
