The Ministry of Culture and Sport celebrates International Archives Week 2023 under the slogan #United FilesUnited

• From 5 to 9 June, the State Archives will offer extraordinary activities such as guided tours, open days, screenings, exhibitions, workshops or concerts • In addition, they will show the short films made within the framework of the European Digital Treasures project • This edition commemorates the 75th anniversary of the International Archives Council and the 50th anniversary of the Latin American Archives Association

June 06, 2023.- On June 9, the Ministry of Culture and Sport celebrates the International Day of Archives, an event whose commemoration extends throughout the week with activities in the different state archives. This edition is held under the motto #United Files, which responds to the construction of a global community, coinciding with the double anniversary of the 75th anniversary of the creation of the International Council of Archives and the 50th anniversary of the Latin American Archives Association. In this way, International Archives Week is an opportunity to give greater visibility to the role that archives play in today’s society.

During this week, all the state archives open their doors and organize free guided tours to show their facilities and how the work of the archives develops. In the case of Castilla y León you can visit the two state archives in the province of Valladolid (Archivo de la Real Chancillería and Archivo General de Simancas) and the Documentary Center of Historical Memory in Salamanca.

In addition, the seven winning short films that were made last year from the archives themselves will be screened as part of the European Digital Treasures project.

The rest of the program of activities is completed with workshops, concerts, exhibitions and online proposals to know better the funds of the state archives:

• Documentary Center of Historical Memory (Salamanca). In addition to the guided tours and the screening of short films, the CDMH inaugurates the exhibition ‘Gaze and presence: works of the Spanish exile in Mexico’ on June 8 and extends the opening hours of its temporary exhibitions until 20h. throughout the week.
• Archive of the Real Chancillería (Valladolid). Complete the activities organized on Archives Day with the exhibition ‘European Discoveries: from the new world to new technologies’ that opens its doors to the public from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
• General Archive of Simancas (Valladolid). The guided tour of its facilities is completed with a documentary exhibition and a practical explanation of the restoration activity in the workshop.
