Unemployment fell by 4,459 people in May and stood at 111,055 in Castilla y León

June 02, 2023.- The number of people registered in the offices of the Public Service of State Employment (SEPE), at the end of May has decreased by 4,459 people (-3.86%) compared to the previous month. The registered unemployment stood at a total of 111,055 people.

This is a very positive decrease in a context of quality contracting.

In year-on-year terms, unemployment has fallen by 11,310 people, a large percentage drop of 9.24%.

Social Security participants stood at 955,564, rising by 9,003 (+0.95%) compared to the previous month and rising by 17,992 (+1.92%) in the last year.

Unemployment by sector

The registered unemployment fell in all sectors: in the Services sector by 3,254 people (-3.97%), in Industry by 404 people (-4.30%), in Construction with 291 fewer unemployed (-4.05%) and Agriculture with 285 fewer people (-5.20%). The collective Sin Empleo Anterior also points to a fall of 225 people in unemployment (-1.95%).

Unemployment by sex and age

The reduction in male and female unemployment is similar in absolute terms. Female unemployment fell by 2,448 women (-3.53%) to a total of 66,981 unemployed.

Male unemployment stands at 44,074, falling by 2,011 men (-4.36%).

For its part, unemployment among young people under 25 years of age fell in May by 611 people (-7.17%) compared to the previous month, doubling the percentage rate of the general fall. The total number of unemployed young people is 7,915.

Hiring

The total number of new contracts registered during the month of May has been 62,099.

In May 2023, 22,501 open-ended employment contracts were registered, representing 36.2% of all contracts.

The contract accumulated in the first five months of 2023 has reached a figure of 256,897.

The coverage of the unemployment protection system during the month of April 2023 has been 62.30%.

The average monthly cost per beneficiary in the month of April has been 927.50€.

The total expenditure of April 2023 amounted to more than 73 million euros.
