May 22, 2023.- The Young Cultural Bonus adds, until March, a total of 911,267 operations, which means an increase of 24.82% compared to the total accumulated the previous month. Since October, the total amount of purchases in the almost 3,000 establishments adhered throughout Spain has reached 32,907,584 euros, a figure 18.56% higher than that registered in March. All of these operations revert directly to the cultural sector, through the cultural entities that participate in the program.
During April, the beneficiaries made 181,195 uses with the Young Cultural Bonus. The value of the operations amounted to 5,152,077 euros in that month.
The operations registered until April 30 are distributed among live arts, with 58.5% of the expenditure; cultural goods in physical form, which represent 30.1% of the total; and products in digital form, with 11.4%.
Since its launch, the Ministry of Culture and Sport is collecting and analyzing the data on the use of the Young Cultural Voucher, which will allow us to know the habits and cultural interests of young people in Spain.
With regard to the distribution by size of population centres, localities with fewer than 50,000 inhabitants account for the bulk of operations, a total of 371,340; 210,772 in cities with more than 50,000 inhabitants; and 319,424 in provincial capitals.
As of May 18, there were 2,934 affiliated companies (some with multiple sales establishments in the Spanish territory), 1% more than in March. This translates into more than 3,000 outlets, both physical and online, available (consult here the map), to which are added another 69 applications currently under processing. The term of accession of companies remains open.
About the Young Cultural Bonus
From the granting of the aid, young people have one year to use the 400 euros in cultural products or services. The Young Cultural Voucher works with a prepaid card issued by Correos and that the beneficiary can have virtually on his mobile or receive physically at home. With this card you can enjoy cultural experiences and products, which are divided into three sections to favor the diversification of investment, with the following distribution:
- 100 euros for physical products, for example, books, press or discs.
- 100 euros for digital products, such as digital press, podcast or online video games.
- 200 euros for performing arts: theater, opera, cinema, dance, museums or bullfighting shows.
The objective of the Ministry of Culture and Sport with this pioneering initiative has a double meaning: on the one hand, it shows the interest of a wide spectrum of the young Spanish population for culture, which this initiative helps to build loyalty as a public and cultural consumer for the future; and, on the other hand, it offers additional support to the cultural sector to recover from the crisis, with an estimated higher investment of close to 112 million euros.
Call 2023
The Council of Ministers approved on March 20, at the proposal of the Minister of Culture and Sport, Miquel Iceta, the Royal Decree that regulates the Young Cultural Bonus for 2023. The aid of 400 euros is aimed at the 500,000 young people who turn 18 years of age during this year and who will be able to allocate to the acquisition and enjoyment of products, services and cultural activities. For the second consecutive year, the Government is promoting a public initiative that aims to promote universal and diversified access to culture for young people, generate and strengthen habits of consumption of cultural products, create new publics, stimulate demand and strengthen and consolidate the revitalization of the cultural sector in Spain.
