May 10, 2023.- The delegate of the Government in Castilla y León, Virginia Barcones, accompanied by the subdelegate in Palencia, Ángel Miguel, and by the lieutenant colonel head of the Command of the Civil Guard in this province, Rafael Campos, visited this morning the headquarters of Cervera de Pisuerga where he analyzed the security statistics in Palentina Mountain.
It has also been received by the mayor of the town, Jorge Ibáñez, with whom he has reviewed the situation of this municipality that has 23 districts, a population of about 2,250 inhabitants and whose municipal term is located within the natural park of Fuentes Carrionas and Fuente Copper-Montaña Palentina.
At the headquarters, in addition to greeting the agents who serve there, he has analyzed the evolution of security in the Palentina Mountain. The staff is composed of 10 officers plus the territorial team of the Judicial Police formed by four other officers. Barcones has been particularly interested in the statistics of robberies on farms both in the area and in the province.
To investigate this type of crime and look for the relationship that leads to the clarification of the facts and the arrest of its perpetrators, the ROCA Teams were created, which in 2023 are ten years old.
Since its creation, the number of crimes in the field has been substantially reduced. This decline was most pronounced during the years 2020 and 2021, which were anomalous due to the effects of the pandemic on the mobility of the population. In 2022, they fell again compared to 2019, although they increased slightly compared to the two years of direct influence of covid-19. This is the generalized tonic not only in Palencia but throughout the autonomous community.
In the first quarter of 2023 the number of known crimes has been reduced by nine percent in Castilla y León. In Palencia the decrease has been of 12 percent.
As for the crime rate, according to the analysis carried out, in the province of Palencia it stands at 32 criminal offenses per thousand inhabitants for the average 49 that are committed in Spain.
