Sabrido summed up the quarter’s performance by pointing out that “this summer has been the result of climate change” and highlighted three conclusions; “firstly, that we have had a record summer in heat, where the average temperature in the region has been 25.9 degrees, which has been 2.4 degrees more than in the period 1991-2020; the second conclusion is that we have had a very dry summer, extremely dry, there has been 43 percent less than the usual rainfall in that period; and the third conclusion is that there have been very concentrated storms but that they have not alleviated the summer drought”.
For the territorial delegate of the AEMET in Castilla-La Mancha, Luis María Bañón underlies global warming, “with the same weather situation today that 30 or 40 years ago now temperatures are higher” the anomaly has been generalized in all provinces, technically Albacete has been the province with the warmest summer, Ciudad Real, Cuenca and Guadalajara are in second place, while Toledo has been the third. And he added that “the years 2022,2025 and 2026 are well above the rest of the years and practically all summer we have been with temperatures above the usual ones.
July 22 was the hottest day of the summer, half of all AEMET seasons exceeded or equalled 40 degrees and on June 23 the highest temperature of the entire summer was recorded in Hellín (Albacete) with 43.5 degrees.
As for the seasonal forecast for the autumn that concerns the months of September, October and November, it is likely that the regional average temperature will be historically compared with the previous autumn also higher, according to the last ten autumn that have been marking this trend.
