The Ministry of Industry and Tourism, through the Secretary of State for Tourism, has declared the Calderonian Days of Yepes (Toledo), Festivals of National Tourist Interest, a recognition of the uniqueness of a celebration that combines heritage, history, literature, theater and tradition and that constitutes one of the main cultural and tourist events of this Toledan town.
Toledo.- The Ministry of Industry and Tourism, through the Secretary of State for Tourism, has declared the Calderonian Days of Yepes (Toledo), Festivals of National Tourist Interest, a recognition of the uniqueness of a celebration that combines heritage, history, literature, theater and tradition and that constitutes one of the main cultural and tourist events of this Toledan town.
The Calderonian Days began in 2000, coinciding with the 4th centenary of the birth of Pedro Calderón de la Barca, author closely linked to Yepes. The playwright's relationship with the town dates back to the 17th century, when he wrote The Prodigious Magic, a comedy of saints destined to be represented on the occasion of the Corpus Christi of Yepes in 1697.
Since its first editions, the celebration has evolved into a cultural festival that claims the legacy of Calderón and the historical heritage of the town.
The Secretary of State for Tourism, Rosario Sánchez, stressed that “the Calderonian Days are an example of how the culture and identity of our municipalities contribute to enriching the tourist offer and generating new opportunities for the territories.”
Theatre, heritage and tradition
The program brings together proposals linked to the theater of the Golden Age, including theatrical performances, sacramental cars, concerts, conferences and dramatized routes that allow you to discover the history of Yepes through its streets and monumental spaces.
Among its main proposals is El Yepes Invisible, a nocturnal theatrical route that combines interpretation, music and heritage, and travels through different historical spaces of the town to bring the public closer to episodes, characters and legends linked to the history of Yepes.
The program is completed with gastronomic and oenological activities, linked to traditional products and the wine tradition of the town, as well as with a baroque market of traditional crafts and gastronomy.
The declaration as Festival of National Tourist Interest thus recognizes the value of a celebration that, for more than two decades, has helped to project the cultural identity of Yepes and to reinforce its attractiveness as a destination of cultural tourism, connecting its material and immaterial heritage with one of the great names of Spanish literature and theater.
It is the sixteenth party that has this recognition in Castilla-La Mancha, and 166 throughout the country.
