Toledo.- The Delegation of the Government of Spain in Castilla-La Mancha will process a favourable report so that the Corpus Christi of the Toledo town of Lagartera becomes a Festival of National Tourist Interest in 2027.

This was announced by the government delegate, José Pablo Sabrido, during the presentation of the Delegation Courtyard, decorated with Lagarterano embroidery, in an event in which he was accompanied by the president of the association Amigos de los Patios, Andrés León, the mayor of Lagartera, Sergio Alía, and the councilor for culture of the Lagarterano consistory, Jesús Fernández.

The decoration of the courtyard of the Government Delegation on the occasion of Corpus Christi responds to an initiative in which it is intended to extol the Corpus Toledano by welcoming other celebrations that take place in the region, such as the case of Lagartera.

“With this I already anticipate that this will be a first edition of what will come in the future, because we want it not only to be Lagartera, we want the Government Delegation, while we can, to also become the reflection of other Corpus that may exist in Castilla-La Mancha”, the delegate added.

Meanwhile, in the building of the Government Delegation, located in the Plaza de Zocodover and currently under construction, there will be an exhibition of 12 photographs of the artist Alberto Santos Martín. On the other hand, for the first time the National Police and the Civil Guard will be represented in the building of the Government Delegation through bakers that already hang from their balconies.

“We summarize the corpus in three words, art, tradition and faith”

Both the initiative and the announcement have been very well received by the mayor of the town, Sergio Alía, who has thanked the Delegation for its welcome and the speaker that supposes for the town to be able to present its embroidery in a patio of the Corpus Christi of Toledo.

“It is an honor to come here to Toledo, to be able to exhibit a part of our feast of Corpus Christi, we have been maintaining this tradition since 1590, thanks to all the people, because without the neighbors and neighbors of our people, this could not go ahead,” said the mayor of Lagarterano.

Alía recalled that the most important day of the Corpus Christi Lagarterano is celebrated on Sunday and has its highest point during the procession, which will have more than 40 altars this year.

The Councilor for Culture, Jesus Fernandez, explained that what is exhibited in the courtyard of the Government Delegation is “a very small sample of what can be seen”, explaining that “in Lagartera more than 50 techniques of work are handled, and here we basically have a work of fraying, in which we basically see what is the subject of passion and some other details such as the function of the Eucharist”.

For their part, the association of Friends of the Courtyards of Toledo has valued that one of the main courtyards has been recovered, closed until last year. Its president, Andrés León, has praised the work of centuries by the Lagarteran embroidery and its travel to the regional capital: “Magnificent everything they have presented here, because what they have brought from Lagartera, the truth that impresses nothing more than arriving and has much merit.”

The patio can be visited from 1 to 6 June from Monday to Friday from 18:00 to 22:00 hours and on Saturday from 12:00 to 14:00 hours and from 18:00 to 22:00 hours.
