The Delegation of the Government of Castilla-La Mancha has delivered today the decorations to the Merit of Civil Protection. In total, 73 people and institutions have been awarded for leading events in emergency situations or for prevention or collaboration with the National Civil Protection System.

Toledo.- The Delegation of the Government of Castilla-La Mancha has delivered today the decorations to the Merit of Civil Protection. In total, 73 people and institutions have been awarded for leading events in emergency situations or for prevention or collaboration with the National Civil Protection System.
For the delegate of the Government of Spain in Castilla-La Mancha, José Pablo Sabrido, these distinctions highlight “the solidarity, dedication and, above all, humanity of women and men who put at very complex risk their expertise and even their physical integrity to protect other citizens.”
Also, during this event, we wanted to recognize the importance of the entire National Civil Protection System, as one of the pillars of public security in Spain.
Sabrido recalled one of the most recent episodes of emergencies that the region has experienced: the DANA of 2024, which hit Mira, in Cuenca, with special severity, and Letur, in Albacete. In his speech, the delegate defended the role of professionals and entities that respond in emergency situations and the need to consider Civil Protection as a public policy.
The event was held at the Paraninfo of the Church of San Pedro Mártir, on the Toledo Campus, and all the decorated Marisol Rodríguez, one of the volunteers of the Civil Protection Group of Toledo, and José German Serrano, captain of the BIEM 1 of the Military Emergency Unit, spoke on behalf of all.
The government delegate closed the event thanking the winners "for their dedication and solidarity in difficult times" and recalled that "we are all vulnerable" and that "to serve is also to help in critical moments when life and integrity are at risk".
In addition to the delegate, the medals have been imposed by the subdelegate in the province of Albacete, Miguel Juan Espinosa, the subdelegate in the province of Ciudad Real, Miguel Juan Espinosa, the subdelegate in the province of Cuenca, M.ª Luz Fernández, the subdelegate in the province of Guadalajara, Susana Cabellos, the subdelegate in the province of Toledo, Carlos Ángel Devia, and the director of the Museum of the Army in Toledo, brigadier general Francisco Germán Martínez.
The event was also attended by the Senior Chief of the National Police of Castilla la Mancha, Chief Commissioner Francisco Herrero, and the accidental head of Zona in the region, Colonel Jesús Manuel Rodrigo.
Decorated
The Medal of Merit of Civil Protection distinguishes people and institutions that have stood out for protecting people and property in situations of emergency and serious risk, catastrophe or public calamity, or that have carried out singular acts with notorious risk or singular collaboration with the authorities in the coordination of resources in such circumstances or altruistic cooperation, as well as in continuous and relevant actions of interest to Civil Protection.
In total, 26 medals have been imposed for performances on the occasion of the Dana of 2024, another 24 corresponding to last year, and another 23 for events that occurred throughout 2025. They have been recognized as members of the security forces; Civil Guard, National Police, Local Police, Land Army, UME Emergency Intervention Battalion, Civil Protection Groups, Special Fire Prevention and Extinguishment Services and Fire Brigade, security guards; as well as medical personnel, nurses, nursing assistants and social entities such as the Association of Women of Henarejos and Mira (both in Cuenca) or the Association of Women of Letur and Parish Caritas of this municipality.
