Madrid.- The delegate of the Government of Spain in Castilla-La Mancha, José Pablo Sabrido, participated this Thursday in the presentation of the activities of the VIII Centenary of the Cathedral of Toledo in the space of Turespaña in Fitur, where he has transferred the impulse of the Government of Spain to the promotion of this singular event.
During the presentation, José Pablo Sabrido shared a reflection on the deep meaning of the Cathedral of Toledo as a symbol of transcendence. In his speech, he pointed out that faith is the origin of these great constructions, the fruit of a prolonged work in time that unites the divine and the human through monumental architecture. He also stressed the value of the Primate, recalling the historic role of cathedrals as spaces that ordered and articulated the life of society.
The program has continued with the intervention of the head of the musical programming of the VIII Centenary and director of the El Greco Festival of the Real Fundación de Toledo, Juan José Montero, who has advanced the general lines of the musical programming. This will include four Organ Battles, the recreation of music linked to Cardinal Cisneros and a Symposium of Musicology dedicated to the musical archive of the Cathedral of Toledo.
Music is one of the great historical patrimonies of the Cathedral of Toledo. For centuries, the Temple has been a space for musical creation linked to the liturgy, organ and song, with its own tradition of enormous cultural value. The musical program of the VIII Centenary recovers and projects that legacy, connecting it with the rich artistic and architectural heritage of the Cathedral, another of the great axes of the commemoration.
In this sense, the canon responsible for Heritage of the Cathedral of Toledo, Juan Miguel Ferrer, has presented the Great Primate Exhibition, an exhibition that will take place inside the temple and that will highlight the role of the Cathedral of Toledo as a spiritual, artistic and architectural model throughout the centuries.
The Primada exhibition will be inaugurated on May 25, 2026 and will remain open until October 14 at the Primada Cathedral in Toledo. It will bring together more than 350 masterpieces that cover eight centuries of art, faith and heritage, with authors such as El Greco, Velázquez, Zurbarán, Bellini and Luca Giordano among its protagonists. Developed within the Temple itself, this unique event will try to “show the Cathedral without hiding the Cathedral”, as he remarked.
The event has been closed by the dean of the Cathedral of Toledo, Juan Pedro Sánchez Gamero, who has placed the accent on the deep sense of the VIII Centenary as a celebration of a living history that continues to dialogue with the present and to project itself towards the future.
In this sense, it has advanced some of the most relevant milestones of the programming, such as the inaugural proclamation, which will take place next Thursday 29, along with important national and international meetings, devotional celebrations such as the Centenary of the Canonical Coronation of the Virgen del Sagrario, and a wide agenda of cultural activities, concerts aimed at young people and families and proposals designed for diverse audiences. The Dean also recalled that the VIII Centenary of the Cathedral of Toledo has been declared an Event of Exceptional Public Interest, a consideration that highlights its cultural, spiritual and patrimonial relevance and that will allow this commemoration to be planned nationally and internationally. A celebration designed to attract quality cultural and religious tourism, interested in proposals with content, rigour and depth, and which will reinforce the role of Toledo as one of the great cultural destinations of Spain.
He also stressed the firm commitment of the Centenary to accessibility and inclusion, as an essential dimension of the project and expression of the universal vocation of the Cathedral. In this area, he has highlighted the collaboration with ONCE, aimed at facilitating access to heritage and Centennial activities for people with disabilities, incorporating criteria of cultural accessibility that allow them to enjoy and understand the legacy of the Cathedral from a truly inclusive perspective.
