Toledo.- The delegate of the Government of Spain in Castilla-La Mancha, Milagros Tolón, has chaired on Thursday a working meeting with the social and economic agents of the region to assess the evolution of foreign trade and the possible impact of the tariff threats posed by the president of the United States on strategic sectors for the region.
The meeting was attended by the Head of Service of ICEX in Castilla-La Mancha, Fernando del Cubo; the representative of the Economic and Financial Department of CECAM, José Javier Fernández; the president of the Chamber of Commerce of Toledo, María Ángeles Fernández; the vice-president of the same institution, Pedro Hermida; the regional secretary of UGT, Lola Alcónez, and the regional secretary of CCOO, Javier Ortega.
Permanent dialogue
The government delegate recalled that this appointment is part of the commitment made last April to maintain a permanent dialogue in the face of the uncertainty generated by the trade war promoted by the United States.
Milagros Tolón has pointed out that faced with the threat of a new wave of tariffs from August 1, the Government of Spain is committed to a joint and coordinated response from the European Union, exploring two ways: the negotiation of an agreement that will slow down the measures and the deployment of protective actions for the companies affected, with the search for new markets and lines of support.
Forecasts
He also said that despite the adverse international context, the forecasts for Castilla-La Mancha foreign trade remain positive; and recalled that, according to ICEX, in 2025 exports from the region could reach 11.380 billion euros, which would mean a growth of 6.4%.
The delegate highlighted the joint effort between administrations, unions and companies to address this situation, and referred to some of the measures implemented by the Government of Spain to stimulate the regional economy:
-More than 100 million euros in Regional Incentives for business projects in 2024 and 2025.
-206 million euros in aid to the agri-food sector since 2022, with about 99,000 beneficiaries.
-More than 2.4 billion euros from the Recovery Plan, with more than 63,000 beneficiaries in Castilla-La Mancha, 78% of the business sector.
-The largest regional financing in history, with 6,953 million in cash deliveries for Castilla-La Mancha in 2025.
“We are acting with responsibility, dialogue and anticipation to protect our economy and ensure that companies in Castilla-La Mancha can continue to grow, generate employment and open up to the world,” concluded the Government delegate.
