Toledo. The delegate of the Government of Spain in Castilla-La Mancha, Milagros Tolón, has attended the minute of silence called on the facade of the Delegation of the Government, in Toledo, as an act of revulsion for the machista murders that occurred in Spain over the weekend.
Minute of silence in which he was accompanied by the councilor for Equality of Castilla-La Mancha, Sara Simón; by the president of the Cortes of CLM, Pablo Bellido; representatives of the Institute of Women of CLM; of the National Police and the Civil Guard; councilors of the City of Toledo or unions.
VioGen System saves lives
Milagros Tolón lamented the death of five women in Spain due to male violence and stressed that the VioGen System “is saving many lives of women who have denounced and who have at home or around a person who has threatened them. But we have to continue strengthening from the point of view of information, from the economic side and from the coordination of all administrations so that this does not happen.”
The government delegate has also appealed “to civil society, to people who know there are women under threat and to political parties so that we can have unity. We already know that there are some far-right parties that don’t think this is happening and they need to be pushed aside because it’s worth continuing to work together.”
Milagros Tolón has insisted that we must continue working “to stop this scourge that we have in our country and that always affects women who have been mistreated and killed. From the Government of Spain we are working so that from the different VioGen programs women feel protected, informed and denounced. It is a sad day and we will continue to work in coordination with the Board of Communities and the City Councils. Municipalities that, once and for all, have to say no to those far-right groups that are governing with them.”
For her part, Sara Simón, Minister of Equality, thanked the Delegation of the Government of Spain for convening the minute of silence and strongly condemned “a dramatic situation, such as the wave of machista murders that we are experiencing in our country. 21 confirmed victims so far this year, starting a dramatic summer. Murdered simply for being women. From the Government of Castilla-La Mancha we will continue working to eradicate male violence, which exists because there is structural inequality.”
