Madrid.- The Turespaña stand at FITUR hosted this Friday the presentation of the light and sound show “Lumina” offered by the Cathedral of Toledo and which represents a new proposal in Spain for the enhancement of cultural and architectural heritage.
This was evident during the event, which was attended by the delegate of the Government of Spain in Castilla-La Mancha, Milagros Tolón; the dean of the Cathedral, Juan Pedro Sánchez Gamero; the director of Turespaña, Miguel Ángel Sanz, and Alfonso López, of Meraki Cultura Audiovisual, technical manager of the project.
The delegate of the Government of Spain has highlighted the support of the Government of Spain to projects of conservation, enhancement and dissemination of the historical and monumental heritage of Castilla-La Mancha with its support to initiatives such as the one carried out by the Cabildo of the Cathedral of Toledo.
Art and new technologies
Milagros Tolón has said that the Government of Spain “shares the objective: to show the great patrimonial and religious wealth of the Cathedral from a new perspective, combining art, history and new technologies” and has assured that “Lumina” expands the cultural offer of the region with an initiative based on excellence, inclusion, quality and sustainability.
With this, “not only do we make our rich heritage known by applying the new technologies, we also contribute to promote tourism as an economic engine of Castilla-La Mancha with a nocturnal cultural offer that will allow to expand the number of overnight stays”, said the delegate of the Government.
Milagros Tolón recalled that the project began in 2017 and was presented in the FITUR edition of the year 2020, but the pandemic has delayed its implementation.
Transcend barriers
The dean of the Cathedral has affirmed that “Lumina” transcends cultural barriers and “creates a bond that leaves its mark on visitors.” Sánchez Gamero thanked the government delegate for her support, which facilitated the presentation of this initiative in Turespaña and insisted that the show “will contribute to generating employment and increasing overnight stays” in the capital of Castilla-La Mancha.
“Lumina”, where more than 3,000 people have already passed, is an immersive experience, a show of light and sound and videomapping that highlights the great wealth of the Toledo temple through a tour of its ships and chapels.
This is one of the initiatives of the VIII Centenary of the Cathedral of Toledo, which is celebrated in 2026, a commemoration in which we work together with the Cabildo of the Cathedral so that the Government declares it “Matter of Special Public Interest”, thereby facilitating access to tax credits for collaborating entities.
