Talavera de la Reina, October 2, 2023.- The deputy delegate of the Government in Toledo, Carlos Ángel Devia, has presided over the official acts of the Police Day in Talavera de la Reina, on the occasion of the celebration of his patron, the Guardian Angels, in which the chief commissioner, José María Delgado Díaz, and the mayor of the city, José Julián Gregorio López, among other authorities, have been present.
After the awarding of decorations from the Cross to the Police Merit with white distinctiveness in fact meritorious to four agents and an officer, and to the Talaveran judoka Sancha Sánchez, in addition to six batons of command to companies and individuals for their collaboration with the National Police, and the delivery of diplomas to retired police officers; “the subdelegate of the Government in Toledo has recalled that this year we are in the run-up to the celebration of the Bicentenary of the National Police, which will take place in 2024, it is important that the Government of Spain has declared an ‘Exceptional Public interest’.
Carlos Ángel Devia said that “we are one of the institutions most loved and respected by the citizens for their commitment to guarantee spaces of security and coexistence, an intangible key to the social, political and economic development of our land”.
On the other hand, he has publicly acknowledged the 446 men and women who make up the Talavera police station “for their daily work and their personal and professional involvement in guaranteeing the rights and freedoms of citizens.”
The deputy delegate of the Government has defended that the National Police Force must not only adapt to the new social realities, but also lead the defense of our fundamental values that are equality, freedom, justice and political pluralism as stated in our Constitution.”
In this sense, he has referred to the work of protecting women against violence, as a fight for the value of equality and as all profound changes - he added - require the honesty to start with oneself.
In this way, it has given as an example that the National Police Force has been a pioneer in the incorporation of women in all professional categories, operational and management positions and the fact that the Government of Spain has approved this year the First Plan of Equality of the National Police.
Carlos Ángel Devia has had words of praise for all the decorated agents, as well as for all those who have received the diploma on the occasion of his retirement and has remembered all the policemen who died in the act of service throughout these 199 years of history.
The event ended with the interpretation of the Police anthem: “Iron Tenacity.”
