Toledo.- The subdelegate of the Government in Toledo, Carlos Ángel Devia, accompanied by the mayor of Talavera de la Reina, Tita García, and the mayor of Gamonal, Marta Garrido and the mayor of Velada, José Luis Cebadera, has presented the project of works cited by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (Mitma) for the new link construction at kilometer 105 of the N-502 road, which will improve the connection of both municipalities.
The government subdelegate reported that this project was litigated by Mitma at the end of December for an amount of 6.8 million euros and aims to safely channel the traffic movements from Gamonal and Velada, which currently use the two intersections at the level of kilometer points 104.75 and 105.50 in the N-502.
“This is a very important work,” he stressed, “not only because of the economic investment of the Government of Spain, but also because of what it contributes to the fluidity of traffic and the safety of users of this route.”
Carlos Ángel Devia explained that the works will consist of executing a single link that will serve to connect the towns of Velada and Gamonal with the N-502 road, and that will be located at kilometer 105.2, at an intermediate point between the two current intersections.
Likewise, he added that this performance will improve the N-502, both in plan and in elevation, in a stretch of 1,200 meters, which will improve the fluidity and security in the connections of all movements with the N-502.
The subdelegate of the Government has pointed out that the Government of Spain, through Mitma, has invested more than 100 million euros in the improvement of road infrastructures since June 2018 in the province of Toledo, which has meant a great improvement in the quality of service of the state road infrastructure in the province and greater road safety for users.
In this regard, he recalled that Mitma has also acted in this same way, awarding last year a contract for works for the superficial rehabilitation of the N-502 road in 95 km in the province of Toledo, with 5.1 million euros of investment.
"In short," he added, "the Government of Spain has invested more than 100 million euros in road infrastructure in the province of Toledo in this legislature. It is a government that not only cares about the well-being of citizens, but also cares about the well-being of citizens.”
“When we have mayors who make it so easy for us,” he concluded, “the projects come to fruition. Thank you Mayor of Talavera for sending these proposals to the Government, for working so that the population of this region can have better infrastructures, and, above all, that Talavera has a marked course, which is ultimately what allows a city to face its future with much optimism”
Technical characteristics
The new link that is going to be built is the so-called ‘diamond with weights’ type; which means that it is equipped with two roundabouts on both sides of the N-502, and a bridge that unites them.
In this way the connections with the accesses to Velada and Gamonal will be made through two-way vials, located on the right side of the road and the connecting vial between the two roundabouts of the link will pass over the N-502, through a bridge of 25 meters of light formed by a board of Artesa beams of 11.10 meters wide.
The existing roads and access to estates are expected to be replaced by new ones, which will connect with the roundabout on the left side of the link or with others, in the case of the right side.
Plan of Humanization of the 502 as it passes through Talavera
On the other hand, the subdelegate of the Government, also referred to the integral renovation of the urban section of the N-502 as it passed through Talavera de la Reina with the project called ‘Plan of Humanization’ whose works have been listed with a budget of 8.5 million euros, from the Next Generation Funds of the Plan of Recovery, Transformation and Resilience.
In this regard, the signing of the project authorization will be imminent.
The mayor of Talavera, Tita García, explained that the projected works include the total renovation of the sidewalk, creation of bike lanes, adaptation of urban furniture, renovation of lighting, signage of pedestrian passes, change of the traffic light network, improvements in accessibility and the rehabilitation of the lower pass of the Puente del Príncipe.
The section affected by the works of the Humanization Plan, whose basic lines were presented in Talavera last July by the general secretary of MITMA, Xavier Flores, includes, as specified by the mayor, from the roundabout of the avenue of Portugal to the roundabout of Puerta de Cuarto, Paseo Padre Juan de Mariana, Avenida Real Fábrica de Sedas and the pedestrian and cyclist areas of the Ronda del Cañillo to the Puente del Príncipe.
The Plan has also included the area of the N-502 between the roundabout of the road CM-4102 of Los Navalmorales to the roundabout that links to the Southwest Variant, of almost 1.5 kilometers in length.
