The Ministry of Culture, through the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts (ICAA), has granted support to two film projects in Cantabria in its recent calls for the production of feature films on project and script writing.
The beneficiaries of this aid are the experimental feature film ‘Somos los Buenas’, by the production company Sincio de Pelis, which will have a funding of 107,517 euros, and the fiction script ‘Paco Muerte’, by the Cantabrian Saúl Pérez Ruano, which will receive a support of 30,000 euros.
The call for the production of feature films on the 2025 project will mobilise a total of 37 million euros in order to improve the industrial fabric of film companies operating in the sector, making it possible to strengthen them and facilitating the development of their activity in an open and competitive market.
In this line of aid, 98 projects have benefited; 49 of them in the category of special cultural and artistic value, 34 in the documentary and, for the first year, 15 in the experimental.
Through the call for scriptwriting of feature films, the Ministry will make a total investment of 8 million euros in 285 projects; 224 in the category of fiction, 53 documentaries and 8 animation. Of the total, 74 are written in co-official languages.
This line of aid, which had not been convened for 14 years, seeks to strengthen the skills of professionals in the first links of the value chain in order to combat the job insecurity of writers. In the selection, only scripts have been admitted whose elaboration and development have not used generative artificial intelligence tools.
In both calls, clauses aimed at bridging the gender gap have been incorporated, promoting the incorporation of women into the sector. In numbers, 131 of the winning scripts are made by women, 40 of the selected feature projects will be directed exclusively by women and 90 of them will have a technical team with at least 40% female presence.
