The government delegate in Cantabria, Pedro Casares, has claimed the autonomous community as a “unique place” by having seven villages among the 122 most beautiful in Spain which “makes us the most beautiful region” of the country.
He praised it this Saturday at the inauguration of the XIII Assembly of the Association of the Most Beautiful Peoples of Spain that is held in Santillana del Mar and in which the mayor of the municipality, Sara Izquierdo, has also participated; the president of the Association, Francisco Mestre; the general director of Tourism of Cantabria, María Saiz; and the general director of the Caja Cantabria Foundation, Juan Muñiz, as well as representatives of the municipalities adhered to the entity.
Casares has highlighted the 122 most beautiful villages in the country as an example of “the beauty, heritage and identity that makes Spain an exceptional country” and within which Cantabria is “a unique place” and Santillana del Mar is a good example of this.
“Here in Santillana began all that we are today as a country thousands of years ago, in those caves of Altamira that are heritage of humanity, but also heritage of the best Cantabria that looks to the world with the pride of being protagonist of history,” said the government delegate.
For Casares, Cantabria is a unique place not only for its heritage but also for its “nature, culture, traditions, folklore and gastronomy” and, therefore, has extolled that it has seven of the most beautiful villages in Spain among which is Santillana, but also Comillas, Mogrovejo, Potes, Bárcena Mayor, Carmona and Liérganes.
The representative of the State has urged the members of the Association to continue “expanding horizons and exploring that infinite Spain, as infinite is also Cantabria, and in which beauty, heritage, history and traditions invade everything to make us the best country in the world”
“Continue working like these years with European funds, with the tourism sustainability plans launched by the Government of Spain to unite the heritage that you defend with the best future along with digital transformation and sustainability,” said Casares.
