- The government delegate in Cantabria, accompanied by the Secretary General of the Delegation, held his first meeting with the eight consuls with representation in the city
The Government delegate in Cantabria, Pedro Casares, has transferred the “maximum collaboration” of the Delegation and the Government of Spain to the Consular Corps of Santander that has recently renovated its structure and has the Consul of Malta, Román Villaescusa, as dean and with the Consul of Brazil, Carmen Ealo de Sá, as vice-dean.
Casares, accompanied by the Secretary General of the Delegation, Santiago García, held his first meeting with the Consular Corps of Santander on Thursday.
Thus, he has received in the Government Delegation the six of the eight consuls: Román Villaescusa (Malta), Carmen Ealo de Sá (Brazil), Rafael Bustamante Losada (Ecuador), Ana Belén Gutiérrez (Lithuania), Sancho Michell (Romania) and Arturo José González Mota (Ukraine). They are also consuls in the Cantabrian capital Luis del Río Diestro (Chile), Rodolfo Maza-Madrazo Pereda (Denmark).
The government delegate has not only conveyed to them the “maximum collaboration” of the institution and the Government of Spain, but has also reached out to them to “help give visibility” to the work carried out by the Consular Corps of Santander and its members.
He highlighted the “altruistic and selfless work” carried out by honorary consuls and thanked them for their “vocation of public service”.
For his part, the dean of the Consular Corps has thanked Casares for being the first regional authority that receives them since the body’s representation structure has been renewed, in which, from now on, “it will function as a collegiate body in which we will all have a voice.”
“We want the Consular Corps of Santander to be more participative and have greater representation in the institutional and social life of Cantabria,” said Villaescusa, who has told the delegate that all the members of this group will work together to have more visibility.
Therefore, they are already working on a program to carry out activities, on an exhibition and on the realization of a summer course of the Menéndez Pelayo International University (UIMP) that can bring together all the consuls of Spain and the Diplomatic School.
