• The government delegate in Cantabria has highlighted the role of the Spanish Government in the UN, where it works “tirelessly” to defend the end of the Israeli offensive
• The Palestinian ambassador to Spain, Husni Abdel Wahed, has warned that “the values and principles of humanity are at stake”.
The government delegate in Cantabria, Pedro Casares, has asked to “raise the voice” in the face of the “genocide” being committed by the State of Israel in Palestine so that they “stop the bombs” and begin a “dialogue” that puts an end to a conflict that lasts “too long”.
Casares said so this Tuesday in the public event held in the Government Delegation in Cantabria with the Ambassador of Palestine in Spain, Husni Abdel Wahed, and which has gathered almost a hundred people in the Juan de la Cosa room of the institution’s headquarters.
The State representative in Cantabria said that “the basic principles of human rights” are not being respected in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. “They are bombing the civilian population, children and girls, and therefore we raise our voice so that the bombs stop and we begin to talk and talk,” he said.
Casares, who met with the Palestinian ambassador before the meeting open to citizens, conveyed to Husni Abdel Wahed “the recognition of this Delegation and the Government of Spain to the people of Palestine”.
He has claimed the role of the Government of Spain that was the first country, in May 2024, to recognize the State of Palestine. “They said we were alone. We were not alone, we were the first”, said the delegate, who recalled that subsequently many other countries such as Portugal, Australia, United Kingdom or Canada have recognized the Palestinian state.
“It is the solution for the future. In Israel and Palestine, two states have to coexist. Because there are two states, because there are two peoples,” insisted Casares, who expressed to the Ambassador of Palestine in Spain the “solidarity” of the Cantabrians against what their people are suffering.
“THE VALUES AND PRINCIPLES OF HUMANITY ARE AT STAKE”
For his part, Husni Abdel Wahed has warned that “the values and principles of humanity are at stake in Palestine” because it cannot be understood “partially or selectively”. “Unfortunately there are those who fall into this and what happens is genocide,” he said.
The Palestinian ambassador has claimed that “the priority is to stop the genocide” that is being perpetrated in both the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, despite the fact that what is happening here is “less well known”, and “to urgently bring in humanitarian aid”.
He has pointed out that the “absolute impunity of Israel” reaches the point that the arrival of water, food or medicines to the Palestinian people is not being allowed.
Faced with what the Palestinian people are suffering, he thanked that “the peoples have raised their voices and are playing a decisive role in changing the position of some countries.”
And, to conclude, he highlighted the role of Spain, both at institutional and popular level, “because it has taken the lead and has demonstrated a great capacity for management and leadership”. “I trust that Spain will continue to lead this effort for peace, justice and freedom,” he concluded.
