The government delegate in Cantabria, Pedro Casares, made his first visit to the National Police Superior Headquarters in Cantabria, accompanied by the Superior Chief, Carmen Martínez.
Casares pointed out that at the moment the National Police has in the community the largest number of personnel in its history in Cantabria, with 600 agents, 26 of them in the process of training, in the police stations of Santander and Torrelavega, which means that more than 95% of the catalog of agents is covered.
Every month, he said, new officers are added to these police stations in Cantabria, since it is “a living and continuously growing catalogue”, highlighting at this point the commitment of the Government of Spain to increase the staff of the National Police.
The government delegate made these statements during his first visit, as government delegate in Cantabria, to the senior police headquarters, where he highlighted “the extraordinary and tireless work always of the men and women who are part of the National Police”
“A job to guarantee security and coexistence, which is highly valued by the men and women of this country,” he said.
Thus, he has highlighted the great work done by the National Police in Cantabria and the State security forces and bodies, which make it possible, he said, for Cantabria to be one of the safest communities in Spain, “in a country that is in turn, one of the safest in the world, and this is only possible thanks to the tireless work of exemplary public servants, of which we have to feel very proud.”
In this sense, Casares, who made a tour during his visit to the facilities, recalled that they were remodeled, being Minister of the Interior, Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba, “demonstrating his commitment at that time with the National Police, a commitment that is still in force now with the government of Spain.”
Thus, the government delegate reiterated his words during the visit, a few days ago, to the command of the Civil Guard; “our men and women of the security forces of the State go through one of the best moments in their history” remarking that “there is a firm commitment of the government of Spain to guarantee and improve the working conditions of our national police”.
In addition, Casares has referred to wage equalization with that 38 percent increase in average earnings and also to the commitment to expand the workforce that is currently covered to more than 95 percent.
Innovation
On the other hand, the government delegate has highlighted that the National Police, is continuously innovating to ensure the safety of all.
At this point, he referred, for example, to the fact that this new system of entry and exit at the border posts of Cantabria will soon be available, specifically at the airport of Santander and at the port of Santander, through the Entry Exit System (EES), a new electronic system has to start operating from October throughout the European Union before March 2026 Cantabria.
“We are going to start working from the first days for the provision of that service starting with the Santander airport, starting on October 16 and starting on December 12 in the port,” said Casares.
A system, said the government delegate, that “will ensure that throughout the border territory of the European Union we can know in real time that register of entry and exit of passengers”. “It is an extraordinary innovation that will allow us to do a better job, thanks to the deployment that the National Police is going to do,” he said.
In the field of renewal and innovation, Casares also referred to the development of the MiDNI digital application that will be fully operational and comparable with the physical DNI, he said, “and that will allow any citizen to download it on their mobile phones, so it is a great innovation.”
The government delegate on his visit to the Higher Police Headquarters of Cantabria also referred to the investments made and announced that in the coming weeks “we will be able to attend the inauguration of the new facilities of the office of attention to the citizenship that has the Higher Police Headquarters in Santander”, which doubles the space of attention to the citizen and allows to provide the service to the citizens 24 hours a day, 365 days a year”.
Finally, Casares referred to the documentation center of the National Police in Castro Urdiales “with which we serve throughout the territory of Cantabria” and the Mobile Unit, which has the National Police, fully operational since January, which this year will visit the different municipalities of Cantabria, and which is a service to which citizens come to issue a new ID or passport.
“There have already been more than 2,000 citizens who have enjoyed this useful service with which we are going to continue touring Cantabria,” he concluded.
