The Government delegate in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, attended on Thursday the official inauguration of the PHotoESPAÑA Festival at the Naves de Gamazo Art Center, an event that was attended by the Secretary of State for Transport and Sustainable Mobility and president of ENAIRE Foundation, José Antonio Santano, and the director of the contest, María Santoyo.
The event has meant the opening of two outstanding exhibitions: ‘Mirabilia’, by photographer and Career Award 2025 Joan Fontcuberta, and the collective exhibition corresponding to the XVIII edition of the ENAIRE Foundation Photography Awards, which brings together the works of winners and finalists of this call.
Fontcuberta has been present at the inauguration, where she has offered a guided tour of ‘Mirabilia’, a visual tour that reviews more than five decades of her artistic production. The exhibition, curated by Sema D’Acosta, presents unpublished works along with some of his most recognized series, around key themes such as the tension between reality and fiction or the hybridization between the natural and the artificial.
Prior to the event, the award-winning authors and finalists of the ENAIRE Foundation Awards have participated in two meeting-debates focused on the current situation of contemporary photography.
The day also served for the official inauguration of the new Virtual Reality Nursery of Fundación ENAIRE, which includes an immersive experience with 360º aerial photographs of Spanish landscapes made with drones, as well as a 360 Tour with virtual reality glasses for the anthological exhibition ‘A roll of dice’, by photographer Chema Madoz.
Fundación ENAIRE, an entity under the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, maintains its commitment to the promotion of contemporary art and aeronautical culture through initiatives such as these, which combine visual creation, technological innovation and artistic heritage.
