Adif, a public entity under the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, advances in the elimination of crossings at the level of Cantabria with the award of works to eliminate a crossing located on the Oviedo-Santander metric width line, as it passes through the town of Boo de Piélagos, for 1.83 million euros.
The action, which includes the construction of an alternative road, a pedestrian walkway on the road and the adaptation of safety and communication facilities, will increase the reliability of the infrastructure and improve safety conditions for pedestrians, rail traffic and road.
The delegate of the Government in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, pointed out that, with the award of this contract, the Government of Spain takes a new step in the modernization of the Vicinity of Cantabria, highlighting that "our autonomous community has for the first time a plan to completely modernize its railway network, with actions ranging from the renovation and duplication of tracks to the elimination of about thirty steps at the level, the construction of new electrical substations, the improvement of security elements or the implementation of a new system of information to the traveler", among others.
"Faced with the years of abandonment of the PP Government, in which the investment in vicinity reached 0 euros, with the progressive government we are in record figures of investment, both in the railway and in the road network," he stressed.
Gómez de Diego also recalled that, in parallel to the renovation of the three proximity lines, "the works of arrival of the high speed to Cantabria are being executed", and has highlighted the advances in the railway integration of Torrelavega, "with the works already in progress", as well as those of Santander, whose first performances "will come to tender soon".
The delegate added that, while the work is going on, about 30,000 Cantabrians benefit from free transport in the Vicinity, which demonstrates the government's "firm commitment" to the Cantabrians and Cantabrians.
New vial and connecting path
The solution adopted for the suppression of the level crossing in Piélagos consists of the execution of a new road that will connect two urbanized areas, a pedestrian walkway on the road, and a connecting path between the road that runs parallel to the road and the one that crosses the stream of the Cuckoo.
The works include the adaptation of safety facilities and the replacement of railway communications and other services, as well as the installation of a new enclosure once the steps have been eliminated.
These actions contribute to the achievement of different Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3 (Health and Welfare), 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) and 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).
