The delegate of the Government of Spain in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, visited this Friday the headquarters of the Civil Guard in Ramales de la Victoria together with Colonel Antonio Orantos, where they have announced the launch of a new window of citizen attention in the field of Intervention of Arms, which will operate on a twice-weekly basis.
This new service, similar to the one already implemented in Potes and Polientes, will allow the citizens of Ramales and its surroundings to carry out procedures related to the administrative control of weapons and explosives without having to travel to more distant locations, thus reinforcing the commitment of the central government and the Corps in the fight against depopulation and the demographic challenge.
The scope of this initiative covers, in addition to the municipality of Ramales de la Victoria, those of Arredondo, Rasines and Ruesga - all at risk of depopulation - as well as Soba, classified as a municipality in a situation of serious risk of depopulation. In total, in these municipalities there are about 700 registered weapons with their corresponding licenses.
The delegate stressed that face-to-face care will be provided on Fridays, the day of greatest influx in Ramales, thus facilitating access to an essential service provided by the Civil Guard, aligned with the objectives of the Ministry of the Interior to ensure territorial cohesion.
The mayors of the municipalities benefiting from the measure were present at the event: César García (Ramales de la Victoria), Jesús Ramón Ochoa (Ruesga), Leoncio Carrascal (Arredondo) and Julián José Fuentecilla (Soba), who have valued positively the approach of public services to rural and mountain areas. The mayor of Rasines, a municipality also benefited, has not been able to attend for work reasons.
1,760 effective
Cantabria currently has 1,760 officers of the Civil Guard and National Police, which places the Autonomous Community very close to the historic maximum of 1,802 troops reached in 2011 after the socialist government.
This figure represents a significant recovery after the cuts suffered between 2011 and 2017 under the mandate of the PP, when 169 agents were lost, reducing the staffs of the Civil Guard and National Police by 9.37%. Since 2018, under the presidency of Pedro Sánchez, the Community has added 127 new agents, recovering more than 75% of the troops that were lost during that stage.
The reinforcement of personnel is framed in the context of the largest calls in the history of public employment made by the Government of Spain for the Security Forces and Corps - the last one, approved by the Council of Ministers last April with more than 6,000 seats - so that the increase in personnel will continue in the coming years.
