The delegate of the Government in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, participated this Thursday in the institutional act organized by the Delegation of Defense in Cantabria, a solemn meeting dedicated to recognizing the commitment, dedication and service of the Armed Forces inside and outside our borders.
During the ceremony, the trajectory of different military personnel, as well as members of civil society, was recognized for their collaboration with Defensa, and tribute was paid to the work of the Spanish military in different humanitarian and protection missions, with special emphasis on their outstanding participation during the DANA episode that affected the Valencian Community.
As highlighted by the delegate of Defense in Cantabria, Emiliano Blanco, up to 30,000 troops participated in the tasks of reconstruction and assistance, using land, air and water resources. "It has been the largest peacetime military deployment in our recent history," he said.
The event has also included the award of the first prize of the school competition 'Letter to a Spanish Military' to the student Leonor González Batós, of the Castroverde School. His letter, dedicated to the experience lived by his father during the work of help after the DANA, has been recognized by the jury for its sensitivity and authenticity.
