The Government delegate in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, visited this Monday together with the Superior Chief of the National Police, Carmen Martínez, the Torrelavega Police Station, where she welcomed the four new chief inspectors who have recently joined as heads of the main police brigades.
Specifically, they are Ignacio Javier Martínez Pinsón, new head of the Local Judicial Police Brigade; Rafael Gutiérrez Vega, head of the Local Citizen Security Brigade; Felipe Serrano Nieto, head of the Local Brigade of Foreigners and Borders; and Santiago García Gutiérrez, who will head the Local Scientific Police Brigade.
"Today I met with them, precisely because I wanted to meet them, welcome them, convey a message of support and trust," said the delegate, who stressed that the number of troops of the State Security Forces and Corps has grown in Cantabria more than 7% since Pedro Sánchez ruled.
Gómez de Diego has stressed that these are “historical figures” for both the National Police and the Civil Guard, thanks to the public employment policy promoted by the Government of Spain since 2018, which has allowed to reverse the more than 13,000 agents that were lost during the PP Government and reach “the largest number of active agents in the history of the country.” "Competitions have been called with a replacement rate of 125%, not only to cover retirements, but to increase the numbers," he explained.
In this context, it has announced that the Ministry of the Interior has authorized the expansion of the personnel catalogue of the Torrelavega Police Station with five new posts. In this regard, Gómez de Diego has pointed out that the coverage of two of them is already underway. "The most advanced are two new inspectors whose competition was published on May 5," he said.
Crime decline
During her speech, the delegate has positively assessed the latest published crime data, which reflect a 9% decrease in conventional crimes in the first quarter of the year in Torrelavega. “It is the third best figure of the last ten years,” he said, asserting that “today no more crimes are committed in Torrelavega than in the years 2016, 2017, 2018 or 2019.”
However, he has again acknowledged the existence of “serious incidents”, although he wanted to make it clear that “all, except the last one that occurred in Sniace and which is still under investigation, have been clarified, with the perpetrators identified and detained”. Seven people, six of whom are directly involved, are in pre-trial detention by court order.
Gómez de Diego has appealed to the citizens to trust in the work of the security forces and bodies. "The National Police and the Civil Guard are acting firmly. I ask the neighbors for confidence in their work," he said.
It has also indicated that the police presence in the areas with the greatest conflict has been strengthened and the joint monitoring and prevention mechanisms have been intensified. “Since November 1, the National Police has carried out 245 checks in Torrelavega,” he said.
For her part, the Superior Chief has highlighted the “fully operational” nature and “extensive experience” of the four new chief inspectors who have joined the Torrelavega Police Station and has stressed that their role will be “to coordinate services and promote in situ the actions of their troops”, with a direct presence on the street.
“These chief inspectors are not mere managers, they are operational personnel, with a recognized trajectory, as we have seen in their presentation,” said the head of the National Police in Cantabria.
During her speech, she congratulated the Torrelavega Police Station for the “excellent data” on the crime rate, and acknowledged the “essential” work of the citizen care groups and the patrol members, whose efforts have been key.
