The delegate of the Government in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, pointed out on Monday that the electric blackout that has affected the whole of Spain has not caused, within the extraordinary situation that has been experienced, serious incidents or insecurity in the autonomous community, and has thanked the work of the State Security Forces and Bodies, as well as the collaboration of citizens.
In an appearance from the headquarters of 112 Cantabria after the meeting of the Operational Coordination Center (CECOP), Gómez de Diego explained that from the first moments of the blackout a crisis committee was activated within the Government Delegation and a permanent contact was established with the different areas of the General Administration of the State.
The delegate has reported that no serious incidents have been reported at Seve Ballesteros Airport. The scheduled flights have operated normally, while in the Port of Santander the berthing of a ship coming from the United Kingdom, from Brittany Ferries, border control has been managed manually, without any major problems.
He has also indicated that both the National Police and the Civil Guard have reinforced their presence on the streets and on the roads since midday, a measure that will be maintained during the night. The traffic on the state road network has passed without alteration, and agents of the Traffic Group have been deployed in points considered potentially conflicting.
The ROCA Team of the Civil Guard, specialized in the rural area, has visited 24-hour care centers and has paid special attention to vulnerable people to ensure their well-being during the interruption of the electricity supply.
Regarding rail transport, Gómez de Diego has detailed that the interruption of train services has resulted in an increase in the demand for buses, although in this case there have not been serious incidents. Adif and Renfe are already working on the gradual re-establishment of the Neighbourhoods network and the medium- and long-distance services, which will be delayed.
Although large commercial areas have registered a greater influx of people looking for supplies in the face of the uncertainty generated, there have also been no disturbances.
