The Government delegate in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, participated this Friday in the inauguration of the new high-altitude car park in Torrelavega, an infrastructure that has involved an investment of 4.6 million euros, of which 1.7 million have been financed by the Ministry of Transport from European funds of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
The new parking, which has 654 parking spaces, is part of the sustainable mobility strategy promoted by the Government of Spain in cities and seeks to reduce the presence of vehicles in the urban center, favoring a city "better communicated, sustainable and healthy", according to Gómez de Diego.
The Government delegate stressed that this project is a "further example of collaboration" between administrations, referring to the City of Torrelavega, the Government of Cantabria and the Central Executive. In addition, he recalled that the Government of Spain is promoting in the city other actions in the field of mobility and urban development for more than 3.6 million euros.
"Today is a nice day, of satisfaction, seeing this car park under way," said Gómez de Diego, who also stressed the importance of other strategic infrastructures for the region, such as the improvement of road communications and the project to refurbish the railway station, which is scheduled to be presented this year.
The event was attended by the councilor for Public Works, Roberto Media; the mayor of Torrelavega, Javier López Estrada; and the councilor for Public Works, José Luis Urraca, among other institutional representatives.
