The delegate of the Government in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, received this Friday Sergio Fernández González, who from February 15 will assume the territorial direction of the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) in the autonomous community. The meeting was also attended by Arcadio Blasco, whom Fernández will take over and who will take over the territorial direction of AEMET in Aragón.
Fernández González (Palencia, 1987) holds a PhD in Physical Sciences from the Complutense University of Madrid. Previously, he graduated in Environmental Sciences and completed a master’s degree in Renewable Energies at the University of León. Official of the Higher Corps of State Meteorologists since 2017, he has developed his trajectory in AEMET as Superior Technician of Studies and Developments in Cantabria between 2019 and 2021 and as head of the Prediction and Monitoring Group of Santander from August 2021 to the present.
Arcadio Blasco, who has occupied territorial management in Cantabria since March 2024, will now assume responsibility in Aragón, a community where he had previously held various positions.
During the reception ceremony, the Government delegate highlighted the work of AEMET in the region and thanked Blasco for his work at the head of the agency in Cantabria, while wishing Fernández success in his new responsibility.
"The work of AEMET is fundamental for society, not only in weather forecasting, but also in the prevention of adverse phenomena and in decision-making in key sectors such as transport, agriculture, fisheries or civil security," said Gómez de Diego.
He also acknowledged the effort and high training of the agency's staff, stressing that "thanks to his dedication, we have accurate and rigorous information that allows administrations and citizens to act with foresight and responsibility in the face of any meteorological circumstance."
