The Ministry of Industry and Tourism plans to publish tomorrow the resolution of the aid of 300 million euros for the compensation of indirect costs of CO2, which will benefit just over 200 electrointensive companies. This was announced today by Minister Jordi Hereu at the Congress of the Family Business Institute held in Santander, where he was accompanied by the Government delegate, Eugenia Gómez de Diego.
This aid programme is aimed at companies in certain industrial sectors and subsectors that are considered to be exposed to a significant risk of “carbon leakage”. This aid demonstrates the Government’s commitment to the electro-intensive industrial sectors and makes it possible to improve their competitiveness, strengthen their industrial capacities and employment.
Since 2019, the government has allocated nearly 900 million euros for compensation for the costs of CO2 emissions.
The minister has also reviewed other lines of aid such as the PERTE, where many family companies have been benefited. The PERTE VEC has already allocated more than 2 billion euros, the PERTE Agro, 182 million and the PERTE for decarbonisation, more than 322 million in line 1 alone.
Jordi Hereu has highlighted the role of the family business, which in Spain accounts for about 90% of companies in Spain. And within this group, 29% belong to family industrial companies.
Finally, it has called for continued public-private collaboration so that our economy continues to evolve and become more digital and ecological. The company must be and is an engine of change and social and economic transformation.
