The Cantabrian Hydrographic Confederation has begun maintenance and conservation work on the Saja River, in the vicinity of the town of Sopeña, in the municipality of Cabuérniga. These works are carried out with the aim of preventing the erosion of the right bank of the Saja River.
In the immediate vicinity of the town of Sopeña an accumulation of acarreo is located on the left bank of the Saja River. This situation is causing the riverbed not to have an adequate drainage section, projecting the flow on the right margin, which has eroded a stretch of 30 m and affected a shellfish plantation carried out in 2020 for the restoration of the riverside forest.
The actions, with an approximate investment of 36 500 €, consist of the re-stacking of the accumulation of carries in 230 m of the Saja River, in order to improve the drainage capacity and avoid erosion on the right margin.
This work is carried out through the public company Tragsa within the Maintenance and Conservation of Waterways Program developed by the Cantabrian Hydrographic Confederation outside urban areas, since in urban areas the conservation and maintenance of waterways are the responsibility of the municipalities.
