The Cantabrian Hydrographic Confederation has begun maintenance and conservation work in the Arroyo de la Plata, in the vicinity of the town of Argomeda, in the municipality of Villafufre. These works are carried out with the aim of stabilizing the margin of the stream, thus avoiding erosion and the accumulation of carries that could reduce the drainage section.
The right bank of the Arroyo de la Plata, in the vicinity of the town of Argomeda, has been affected by erosion, which has caused a detachment on the riverbed, causing the accumulation of carries downstream of the affected section. It is foreseeable that the loss of materials from the right margin will increase in the case of avenues, which can also cause a greater accumulation of sediments and acarreo downstream.
The actions, with an approximate investment of 41,500 €, consist of the stabilization of the right margin with bioengineering techniques, as well as the recovery of the drainage section through the movement of the tanks and sediments accumulated in a stretch of 50 m.
This work is carried out through the public company Tragsa within the Maintenance and Conservation of Waterways Program developed by the Cantabrian Hydrographic Confederation outside urban areas, since in urban areas the conservation and maintenance of waterways are the responsibility of the municipalities.
Until June 1, 2024, in Cantabria, the investment made in conservation and maintenance work of canals amounted to 410,079.42 euros, distributed in 31 actions in 23 municipalities.
