The Cantabrian Hydrographic Confederation has begun maintenance, conservation and improvement work on the River Gandara, from its birth to the mouth of the River Asón.
These works are carried out, in the municipal terms of Soba and Ramales de la Victoria, with the aim of avoiding or reducing the risk of overflow of the Gandara River. In its route, accumulations of plant remains and several fallen trees of large dimensions have been observed in several points of the river, as well as some trees with risk of falling.
The actions, with an investment of 43,000 € and are executed along 17.5 km of riverbed, are carried out to remove fallen or at risk of falling trees and adapt the vegetation of the riverside, in order to avoid the formation of plugs and maintain the drainage capacity of the riverbed.
This work is carried out through the public company Tragsa within the Maintenance and Conservation of Waterways Program developed by the Cantabrian Hydrographic Confederation outside urban areas, since in urban areas the conservation and maintenance of waterways are the responsibility of the municipalities.
Until June 1, 2024, in Cantabria, the investment made in conservation and maintenance work of canals amounted to 410,079.42 euros, distributed in 31 actions in 23 municipalities.
