The Cantabrian Hydrographic Confederation has begun maintenance, conservation and improvement work on the Asón River, from Val de Asón in Arredondo to its mouth. As it passes through the municipal areas of Arredondo, Ruesga, Ramales de la Victoria, Rasines and Ampuero.
The performances are executed in a stretch of about 32 km and have an initial budget of 138 600 €. The main tasks are the adaptation of the bushland vegetation, the removal of plant remains accumulated in the riverbed, as well as the removal of dry, sick, fallen or threatened trees, in order to maintain the drainage capacity of the riverbed and avoid possible flooding and damage to infrastructure. In addition, the removal of residues of anthropogenic origin.
This work is carried out through the public company Tragsa within the Maintenance and Conservation of Waterways Program developed by the Cantabrian Hydrographic Confederation outside urban areas, since in urban areas the conservation and maintenance of waterways are the responsibility of the municipalities.
In the year 2023, the investment made in conservation and maintenance works of waterways in Cantabria was 1.55 million euros, distributed in 62 actions in 33 municipalities.
