The Cantabrian Hydrographic Confederation begins the first workshops aimed at the citizens within the Environmental Recovery Project of the Saja River between the bridges of Santa Lucía and Virgen de la Peña, in the Municipal Terms of Cabezón de la Sal and Mazcuerras (Cantabria). On June 5, 6 and 7, the first four workshops will be held, starting at 10:00 am, at the Casa de Cultura Conde de San Diego de Cabezón de la Sal.
Activities for citizenship
These conferences and workshops are aimed at improving the knowledge of river ecosystems and their ecosystem services. They are free and the first ones that will be developed are the following:
Biodiversity refuge, insect hotels and dental gardens. A theoretical exhibition where the importance of insects is exposed, a field visit and the holding of workshops for the construction of hotels of insects and gardens of odonates (dragonflies and devil horses) in the area of the project. The first workshop is offered on Wednesday, June 5, from 10:00 h to 14:00 h and from 16:00 h to 18:00 h.
Disclosure of the role of amphibians in the ecosystem. A theoretical talk about the importance of amphibians, a field visit and a workshop for the adaptation of water foil in the recreational area “El Bosque”, in the municipality of Mazcuerras. It takes place on Thursday, June 6, from 10:00 h to 14:00 h.
Day for the disclosure of the role of phytophages in the ecosystem. It begins with a theoretical introduction on the importance of phytophages and is completed with a field visit and identification of places for the installation of baits and workshop for the construction of them. Scheduled for Thursday, June 6, from 16:00 h to 20:00 h.
Day for construction of nest boxes. Theoretical description on the reduction of the surface of mature forests, the role of nest boxes, types and species of recipients, and construction and installation of nest boxes in the environment. It is held on Friday, June 7, from 10:00 h to 14:00 h.
The target audience of these conferences and workshops is very varied, from workers, groups of schoolchildren and students of different levels, as well as associations or groups of people interested in environmental activities.
