The Cantabrian Hydrographic Confederation has begun conservation, maintenance and improvement work on the Bichurichas stream in the vicinity of the town of Rioturbio, in the municipality of Comillas.
The actions are executed along 745 m of channel and have an initial budget of 41 415 €. The main tasks are the adaptation of the bushland vegetation and the removal of dry trees, sick or in danger of falling, in order to maintain the drainage capacity of the riverbed, avoid possible flooding and damage to infrastructure.
This work is carried out through the public company Tragsa within the Maintenance and Conservation of Waterways Program developed by the Cantabrian Hydrographic Confederation outside urban areas, since in urban areas the conservation and maintenance of waterways are the responsibility of the municipalities.
In the year 2023, the investment made in conservation and maintenance works of waterways in Cantabria was 1.55 million euros, distributed in 62 actions in 33 municipalities.
