The Cantabrian Hydrographic Confederation has begun maintenance and conservation work on the Miera River in the vicinity of the Concha neighborhood and on a stretch that runs downstream of the town of San Roque de Riomiera.
At two points along the Miera river, we have seen accumulations of acarreo forming two islands where the vegetation has settled. This situation, in episodes of avenues could pose a problem by obstructing the river.
The actions consist of the removal of vegetation from the central islands and the removal of carries to avoid blockages, in a total of 160 m of riverbed. These works have an initial budget of 14 500€ and are carried out with the aim of avoiding or reducing the risk of flooding in the Miera River.
Work carried out through the public company Tragsa within the Maintenance and Conservation of Waterways Program developed by the Cantabrian Hydrographic Confederation outside urban areas, since in urban areas the conservation and maintenance of waterways are the responsibility of the municipalities.
In the year 2023, the investment made in conservation and maintenance works of waterways in Cantabria was 1.55 million euros, distributed in 62 actions in 33 municipalities.
