The government delegate in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, received today the 1st Sergeant of the Civil Guard, Mariano Miguel Moreno, assigned to the Polanco Post, who has won the XVI National Military Championship of Shooting Tours.
The championship, organized by the Higher Council of Military Sports of the Ministry of Defense, was held on April 17 and 18 in the town of Middle-sized Aragon (Zaragoza). Seventy-five shooters from the teams of the Spanish Army, Spanish Air and Space Army, Spanish Navy, Royal Guard, UME and Civil Guard participated.
The competitors had to solve 16 different scenarios, carrying out the tours in the shortest possible time and with the greatest precision, shooting targets without impacting hostages. The exercises were performed with a pistol in the standard modality.
Sergeant 1 Moreno was proclaimed national champion, surpassing with a wide advantage the second and third classified, both also belonging to the Civil Guard.
Gómez de Diego congratulated the sergeant on his brilliant victory, highlighting his sporting talent, his commitment to service and his contribution to the image of the Civil Guard.
During the meeting, in which the chief colonel of the Civil Guard of Cantabria, Antonio Orantos, also participated, Moreno shared with the delegate of the Government some of his experiences in the championship and expressed his pride to represent Cantabria and the Civil Guard in competitions of this level.
A broad sports track
Born in Cantabria, Sergeant 1º Moreno has developed most of his professional career in the Autonomous Community. He is considered a High Competition athlete by the Civil Guard, as well as a Military Outstanding athlete of the Ministry of Defense.
In addition to being part of the National Shooting Team of the Civil Guard, Moreno also integrates the National Military Shooting Team, with which he has represented Spain in international competitions. Throughout his career, he has won numerous championships both at the level of the Civil and Military Guard and in civil competitions, always in the modality of shooting tours.
This type of competition reinforces the skill and expertise in the handling of weapons, skills of great utility in the provision of service by the Civil Guards, resulting in a benefit for the citizens. At all times, both during the competitions and in the provision of the service, safety takes precedence over everything.
