The delegate of the Government in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, participated this afternoon in a Conference on Gender Violence organized in the Municipal Theater of the Corrales de Buelna, at the initiative of the Local Police and the City Council, which has been attended by about a hundred people.
In her speech, the delegate of the Government, in addition to recalling “the long road that still remains to be traveled” in the fight against discrimination and eradication of male violence, has insisted that “despite the commitment of the Government of Spain with the measures in favor of equality, gender violence remains a structural challenge, which requires the involvement of the whole society”. “Only together can we face these challenges and find the way to eradicate them,” he said.
The presentation, given by the Unit for the Coordination of Violence against Women of the Government Delegation in Cantabria, focused on offering women tools that help them identify the first signs of abuse, in what forms gender violence can manifest itself and how it evolves, so that they can seek help to put a stop to it.
The talk was given by the head of the Unit, Diana Mirones, and included the participation of the coordinator of the Comprehensive Care and Information Centers for Victims of Gender Violence, Anabel Perales, and the psychologist of Asociación Consuelo Berges, Rebeca Martínez. Likewise, the welcome was in charge of the mayor, Julio Arranz.
At the moment, there are 1,202 active cases of women victims in the Comprehensive Monitoring System of Cases of Gender Violence (VioGén) of the Ministry of the Interior, in Cantabria. 767 of them have police protection measures established by the Justice and 291 with the device of the Telephone Service of Attention and Protection for Victims of Gender Violence (ATENPRO), which offers victims immediate attention to any eventualities that may occur 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
