The delegate of the Government in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, has today guaranteed that the Ministry of Finance will transfer to the Cantabrian Executive the 2,332 million euros that were planned for the year 2024, “the highest figure in history”, despite the extension of the general budgets of the State, which will not affect the continuity of the “great works”.
In this way, the Government of Cantabria will have 173 million euros more funding this year than in 2023, “a very important growth of 8%”. “This is the highest figure in the history of the Autonomous Community. Never before will a regional government have had so much funding from the Government of Spain,” said Gómez de Diego.
He pointed out that these additional 173 million may be invested discretionally by the Government of Cantabria, “in those issues that are of interest”, such as improving public services in Health, Education or Dependency or increasing investments to boost the economy.
The delegate has thus assured that the Government chaired by Pedro Sánchez maintains its commitment to increase funding to the autonomous communities and municipalities, despite the fact that the electoral advance in Catalonia, added to that of the Basque Country and the failed investiture of Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has led the central Executive to prioritize the processing of the general budgets for 2025.
In this regard, Gómez de Diego recalled that there are already precedents for the extension of budgets. “Unlike what the PP Government did, the current one will not freeze deliveries on account and will transfer those 173 million euros more to Cantabria,” he said.
