The delegate of the Government in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, today regretted that Cantabria loses more than 16 million euros due to the “obstruction” of the Popular Party (PP) to the processing of the General State Budgets corresponding to the year 2024.
“These 16 million euros could be used to improve the lives of Cantabrians and Cantabrians by developing investments that help to boost the economy; strengthen public health, education or dependency systems; build new infrastructures in our villages or grant new aid to sectors that need it. However, because of the People’s Party’s unwarranted obstructionism they have been lost.”
The delegate has pronounced this after the PP yesterday afternoon in the Senate the path of fiscal stability proposed by the Ministry of Finance, which granted the autonomous communities and municipalities greater margin of deficit to increase investments.
As he stressed, “there is no objective reason” to justify the PP maneuver in the Senate and regretted that “for partisan reasons the citizens of Cantabria are harmed”.
In addition, Gómez de Diego has highlighted the “evident contradiction” of María José Sáenz de Buruaga, president of Cantabria and the PP, who “while asking for items such as that of the MUPAC, his party and the senators for Cantabria try to prevent at all costs the processing of the Budgets”.
"Seeing that they have brought down a proposal that only sought to give more room to communities and municipalities, it is clear that Buruaga and the PP have already decided to declare war on the Budgets without even knowing the draft. What’s the point of asking for games? ", the delegate asked herself.
For Gómez de Diego, "it is evident that the Government of Buruaga decided at the beginning of the legislature to undertake an uncompromising opposition against the Government of Spain for partisan purposes, without thinking about the general interest of the Cantabrians, and with the aim of concealing their absenteeism and lack of initiative of their own."
Over 16 million lost
After the PP has blocked the new path of stability in the Senate, the objectives in force for this year 2024 will be those contemplated in the program that the Government sent in April 2023 to the European Commission and that received the endorsement of the Community authorities.
The rejected path gave the autonomous communities a deficit target of 0.1% by 2024.
As a result of this rejection, the Government of Cantabria has lost 16,674,000 euros, to which must be added the cut that the 102 municipalities of the region also suffer in their municipal accounts.
“With one hand they ask for items in the General Budgets of the State and with the other they build barriers closing that possibility,” said Gómez de Diego.
