The Fifth Emergency Intervention Battalion (BIEM V), of the Military Emergency Unit (UME), will participate in a conference of collaboration and exchange of knowledge, led by teams of the Autonomous Community of Cantabria, on the fight against forest fires. This joint activity will be held in the area of Vega de Pas on 6 and 7 February.
The works will consist of the sharing of methods, techniques and tactics that are used in Cantabria for the extinguishment of forest fires. Likewise, the possibility of executing a prescribed burn will be assessed according to the fuel valuation and the orographic and climatological conditions.
The operation of the BIEM V will be composed of 25 military and 9 vehicles, among which stand out: three self-pumps, a nurse, an ambulance and a transmission vehicle.
On the part of the Autonomous Community of Cantabria, the participating teams depend on the Ministry of Rural Development, Livestock, Fisheries and Food.
This meeting belongs to the set of activities of joint preparation with operations of the different communities that are in the area of preferential action of BIEM V, and is one of the issues addressed by the Delegate of the Government, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, in the meeting she has held with the Head of the Fifth Emergency Intervention Battalion (BIEM V), of the Military Emergency Unit (UME), Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Constantino Casado.
During the meeting, the delegate praised the outstanding performance of the EMU staff and expressed her gratitude for the continued effort in the protection and security of the region.
He also stressed that the firefighting exercises planned for the next few days "will strengthen preparedness and response capacity for possible emergencies in our Community."
