The Cantabrian Hydrographic Confederation has begun maintenance, conservation and improvement work on several Cantabrian rivers.
Casares River
The actions, which have an initial budget of € 21,500, are carried out with the aim of avoiding or reducing the risk of plugging and improving the drainage capacity in the 5592 m of the Casares river as it passes through the municipality of Anievas.
These works are carried out between the towns of Villasuso and San Juan de Raicedo, where they are observed in some points of the riverbed, accumulation of vegetable remains such as bushes and fallen trees, thus increasing the risk of clogging.
Arroyo Pulero
Work is being done to improve the longitudinal continuity of the Pulero stream in the immediate vicinity of the town of Mazcuerras, where there is a vacuum for access to a farm, which currently has an alternative access.
The infrastructure is composed of several concrete pipes on which a stone and concrete slab was placed. The drainage capacity is insufficient for the flows generated by the ordinary avenues, generating upstream, a deposit of sediments in the gully, which further decreases the drainage capacity. In addition, downstream of the vacuum on the right side of the riverbed, there is a farm, with significant symptoms of erosion.
The performance has an investment of 3368.48 €, and focuses on the elimination of the concrete structure and the replacement of the channel in approximately 20 m.
River Pas in Luena
The conservation works, which have an approximate investment of 4000 €, are carried out with the aim of avoiding or reducing the risk of plugging and improving the drainage capacity in the 2795 m of the Pas river as it passes through the municipal area of Luena.
The abundant rainfall of November and December 2021 caused the crawling of trees, which is currently forming numerous deposits of dead vegetation (fallen trees, stumps and roots), which means the increased risk of clogging.
River Pas in San Pedro del Romeral
The maintenance actions, which have an approximate investment of 2000 €, are carried out with the aim of avoiding or reducing the risk of plugging and improving the drainage capacity in the 1193 m of the Pas river in the municipality of San pedro del Romeral.
The abundant rainfall of November and December 2021 caused the crawling of trees, which is currently forming numerous deposits of dead vegetation (fallen trees, stumps and roots), which means the increased risk of clogging.
This work is carried out through the public company Tragsa within the Maintenance and Conservation of Waterways Program developed by the Cantabrian Hydrographic Confederation outside urban areas, in which the conservation and maintenance of waterways are the responsibility of the municipalities. In the year 2022, the investment made in conservation and maintenance works of waterways in Cantabria was 2.36 million euros, distributed in 75 actions in 43 municipalities.
