The delegate of the Government in Cantabria, Ainoa Quiñones, has highlighted the “commitment” of the Government of Spain to “modernize the tourist model of Cantabria” and to promote this sector as a “lever for change and transformation of our municipalities”.
Quiñones has pointed this out today in the presentation of the Tourism Sustainability Plan of Ribamontán al Mar ‘Naturally Active’, which has been held in the Municipal Theater and in which he participated together with the mayor, Francisco Asón.
This plan has an investment of 2.8 million euros financed with Next Generation Funds of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. It includes 16 actions to strengthen sports tourism in the municipality, focused on surfing, and included in the Competitiveness Plan of Tourism Product of Surfing.
The actions revolve around sustainability and the reduction of pressure on the coast and highlight some such as the protection and environmental improvement of the beaches of Somo and Loredo, the recovery of the dunes of Loredo, or the recovery and conditioning of Mount Arna for outdoor sport.
Also others such as the creation of deterrent parking and a motorhome area in Galizano, the bike path between Loredo, Langre and Galizano or the improvement of the accessibility of the seafront and the Puntal pier.
The delegate of the Government has extolled that Ribamontán al Mar is “a unique municipality in our country and very special in our Autonomous Community” with “its spectacular beaches” which, “besides being a tourist attraction in themselves, are national and international reference for the practice of surfing”.
“Everyone knows the wonder of beaches such as Puntal, Somo, Loredo or Langre but in Ribamontán al Mar many more things can be done and many more will be done thanks to the investment impulse of the Government of Spain and the work shared with the City Council,” he said.
Quiñones recalled that in the call in which the plan of Ribamontán al Mar was selected, the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade of the Government of Spain also included five other tourist plans of Cantabria, specifically of the municipalities of Torrelavega, Arnuero, Comillas, Santoña and Suances.
“In total, 20.3 million euros to improve the tourist destinations of Cantabria, strengthen its competitiveness through the promotion of new projects, as well as to move towards sustainability and digitalization, which are key in the future of the sector, he said.
14 PLANS WITH ABOUT 50 MILLION INVESTMENT
In addition, the representative of the Government of Spain in Cantabria has highlighted that to these six plans are added another eight approved in previous calls, which translates into “about 50 million in investments that benefit about 60 Cantabrian municipalities”.
“50 million euros from the European funds with which the Government of Spain demonstrates once again its commitment to Cantabria and its future, and its commitment to promote the modernization of our tourism model but also as a lever for change and transformation of our municipalities,” he added.
Quiñones pointed out that, with these projects, “we want to improve the competitiveness of our tourist destinations and bet on a new model that is more sustainable, digital and that increases its capacity to cohesion the territory”, as well as “diversify the offer and de-seasonalize the flow of travelers”.
“Cantabria has many possibilities to make it a tourist destination 365 days a year. The Government of Spain is convinced of this and now with the shared work in municipalities such as Ribamontán al Mar we are going to achieve it”, he concluded.
