The Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (Mitma) is carrying out the modernization and improvement works of the tunnels of Caviedes, Hoz and Torrelavega, on the A-8 motorway, and the tunnels of Gibaja and Limpias, on the N-629 road, in the province of Cantabria, valued at 13.13 million euros (VAT included). Within the framework of these works, next Wednesday, August 9, between 0:00 hours and 06:00 hours, a total cut of the A-8 motorway in the direction of Bilbao will be made between the links of Cerdigo (p.k. 151) and Guriezo (p.k. 159).
These effects are necessary for the unloading of prefabricated houses that will house transformation centers and other low-voltage electrical installations in the Hoz tunnel. The machinery required for these tasks exceeds in its turning movements the scope of a single lane, so the total scheduled cutting must be performed.
The operation will be coordinated with the technician in charge of the safety of the work, with the Traffic Headquarters and with the corresponding conservation sector.
Features of the works
Although the tunnels currently have favourable operating conditions, it is necessary to carry out this action to adapt their facilities, in line with the provisions of the Royal Decree on minimum safety requirements for tunnels of the trans-European road network.
The intervention is included in the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR), which plans to invest up to 357 million euros (without VAT) from NextGenerationEU funds to modernize more than 80 tunnels and enhance the protection of fauna and vulnerable users in the State Road Network through actions distributed throughout the national geography.
