The Government delegate in Cantabria, Ainoa Quiñones, presented on Thursday the device organized by the Government Delegation for the celebration this coming Sunday, July 23, of the General Elections of which almost 9,000 people will be part.
Accompanied by the coordinator of the electoral device in the Government Delegation, Antonio Mañero, Quiñones has indicated that this institution, in close collaboration with the 102 municipalities of Cantabria, has been designing and organizing this device, from the very moment that it was announced to electoral convocation, so that the day develops with absolute normality.
In this way, 74 people from this Government Delegation have been working for the last two months on all the necessary issues of logistics, training and organization to make the day a success.
He also referred to the work carried out to organize the security apparatus in the electoral process, so as to guarantee the citizens’ right to vote and ensure that the day runs normally.
In this regard, he recalled that last Monday a Security Board was held in which the security device was approved, which will be formed in Cantabria by more than 1,200 agents, both from the National Police Force, the Civil Guard and the Local Police.
“The police will ensure the free and peaceful exercise of rights and freedoms and citizen security, as well as the custody of the critical infrastructures of the Autonomous Community that are fundamental for the development of the electoral process,” he said.
The device will start at 00.00 hours on the 23rd and will last until 9.00 hours on the 24th.
The delegate of the Government has detailed that in the Municipal Elections will be elected in Cantabria five representatives to the Congress of Deputies and three to the Senate.
Eight candidates for Congress and seven for the Senate are running in Cantabria for these elections. In total, 40 candidates are running for Congress, of whom 23 are men and 17 women, and there are a total of 17 deputies, 9 men and 8 women.
For their part, 15 candidates are elected to the Senate, of which 9 are men and 6 women. In addition, 30 alternates are presented to the Upper House, of which 50% are men and 50% women.
BUDGET, STAFF AND MATERIAL
The budget of the device for these General Elections in Cantabria at 782,813.21 euros.
Thus, in this electoral process, almost 9,000 people will be mobilized, of which 2,331 will be members of main polling stations, 4,662 substitute polling stations, 449 representatives of the Administration and 27 support persons, 74 people of the Government Delegation and 1,208 members of the State Security Forces and Local Police of Cantabria.
As for electoral materials, 1,554 ballot boxes, 700 booths, more than a million envelopes, 5.1 million ballot papers, 5,011 manuals for table members and 11,800 minutes of polling stations are available.
The envelopes and ballot papers will be of different color depending on the electoral process. Thus, the envelopes and ballot papers of the Congressional Elections will be white, and those of the Senate Elections will be sepia.
CANTABRIAN ELECTORS
Quiñones has reported that according to the census of voters, to date, a total of 507,819 citizens of Cantabria are called to vote on Sunday, which means 6,147 people more than the last general elections held on November 10, 2019.
Of these electors, 466,590 are Cantabrians residing in the region with the right to vote, while those residing abroad amount to 41,229.
As for the new Cantabrian voters for having turned 18 years old, there are 19,241 compared to the previous General Elections of November 2019.
A total of 23,096 requests to vote by mail have been received and accepted: 23,008 applications to make the postal vote of residents in Cantabria and 88 are the applications of voters residing in Cantabria who are temporarily abroad.
ELECTORAL DISTRIBUTION AND DATA TRANSMISSION
Cantabria is divided into 102 municipalities, 128 districts, 460 sections, 377 polling stations and 777 polling stations (36 more than in November 2019).
In addition, Cantabria has a Provincial Electoral Board, located in the building of Salesas, and 6 Zone Electoral Boards located in Laredo, Reinosa, San Vicente de la Barquera, Santander, Santoña and Torrelavega.

The Government Delegation will inform itself of any incidents that may arise during that day, if any, and will also inform itself of the constitution of the polling stations, as well as of the participation data until 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.
As for the vote count, the votes of the Congressional Elections will be counted first, and then those of the Senate.

OTHER DATA
On the other hand, the government delegate has reported that 26 requests for accessible voting kits have been received, 11 more than in November 2019. Applications have been made from eight municipalities: 16 in Santander, 3 in Laredo, 2 in Santa Cruz de Bezana, 1 in Potes, 1 in Torrelavega, 1 in Castañeda, 1 in Udías and 1 in Villaescusa.
