The delegate of the Government in Cantabria, Ainoa Quiñones, highlighted “the great work carried out by the National Police of Cantabria in the ‘Operation Butterfly’ against the trafficking of synthetic drugs in the north of Spain”, an operation in the framework of which five people have been arrested in the Autonomous Community, two men and three women, four in Penagos and one in Ceceñas (Medio Cudeyo).
Quiñones also reported on Thursday that the 1st Examining Court of Medio Cudeyo has ordered the imprisonment of four of the five detainees in Cantabria as part of this macrooperation against drug trafficking in our country, and with which the north of Spain has been starved of synthetic drugs and a major criminal organization has been dismantled.
The delegate of the Government appeared before the media this Thursday along with the superior chief of the Police of Cantabria, Carmen Martínez, and the head of the Provincial Brigade of Judicial Police of Santander, the chief inspector Fernando Tapia, to announce the details of the operation deployed in Cantabria on June 8 within the ‘Operation Butterfly’ led by the central services of the Central Narcotics Brigade (UDYCO) of the National Police.
Quiñones pointed out that this operation, carried out together with the Police Nationale of France, “has been a great joint success of the Spanish and French police since it has managed to desupply the synthetic drug stores on the northern axis of Spain from which it was distributed in the same north of Spain south of France, Barcelona, Ibiza and Madrid”.
“As you know, within the framework of this Operation Butterfly, 150,000 ecstasy tablets, 135 kilograms of speed, 25 kilos of ketamine, four of pink cocaine, 900 vials of anabolic agents and more than 10,000 liters of precursors have been intervened in the 11 registries carried out in Cantabria, Barcelona, Burgos and Madrid,” he recalled.
And he has also pointed out that, in total, 13 people have been arrested, including the leader of the organization, “the chemist” in charge of the transformation of synthetic products and the rest of the criminal structure that was dedicated to the distribution of the drug.
In the case of Cantabria, Quiñones has detailed that “an important operation was deployed with troops from the Headquarters and other arrivals from the central services of the UDYCO last Thursday morning, June 8.”
This operation in Cantabria ended with five arrests, four in Penagos and one in Ceceñas, for crimes against public health, belonging to a criminal organization and illegal possession of weapons.
“We are talking about the fact that 5 of the 13 arrests took place in Cantabria, which is that the organization was made up of three important distribution branches and one of them was based in our Autonomous Community,” said the delegate.
It is in the register carried out in Penagos where 30 bags of one kilo each, packaged under vacuum, of amphetamine sulfate (speed), as well as various tools intended precisely for the distribution of the drug, such as scales, packaging machine, bags… as well as five short weapons of various calibres, a long weapon, a taser, more than 200 rounds of ammunition, loaders, katanas, machetes, money and some quantities of other drugs, among others, are located.
