The Government, through the Ministry of Territorial Policy, has decided to grant 1,589,293 euros to subsidize digitization projects in local entities of Cantabria, belonging to the call of 2022 and under the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, financed by the NextGenerationEU funds.
In total, the local entities benefiting all the autonomous communities will receive an investment of 149 million euros to finance the implementation and development of projects of digitalization and modernization of the local administrations and their services.
This call, for municipalities with a population between 20,000 and 50,000 inhabitants, provincial and provincial councils, cabildos, island councils, Ceuta and Melilla and uniprovincial autonomous communities, began its deadline for submission of applications last August, when local entities were able to submit their digitization projects, aimed at bringing the local administration closer to citizens and facilitating the procedures with innovative proposals that improve the provision of public services, ending the deadline at the end of 2022.
Agreed allocation criteria with local entities
The criteria for the allocation of aid were agreed with local entities, through the National Commission of Local Administration (CNAL) and the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP). A total of 265 municipalities throughout Spain, with a population between 20,000 and 50,000 inhabitants, were called to present their projects in this call, as well as 60 provincial deputies, cabildos, island councils, autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla or uniprovincial autonomous communities.
The call that is resolved today is the second one promoted by the Ministry of Territorial Policy.
The call for 2021, with an allocation of 92.7 million euros, went to municipalities with more than 50,000 inhabitants for their digitization projects. And, in 2023, a third call is planned to complete the budget that the Recovery Plan allocates to the modernization and digitalization of local entities.
Digitalization and modernization of local entities
Among the priorities of the subsidies presented for the modernization and digitalization of local entities are the improvement of the accessibility of digital public services to citizens and companies; reduction of the digital divide; improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of public employees; reuse of constructed digital services and solutions; or the active use of emerging technologies in the deployment of new digital services (chatbots, automation and robotization, platforms, etc.).
