The Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) this week launches a campaign dedicated to monitoring the safety conditions of vehicles circulating on the roads.
As reflected in the Spanish Road Safety Strategy 2030, which identifies safe and connected vehicles as a strategic area, it is demonstrated that the age of the vehicle is a risk factor in a traffic accident: the risk of dying or being seriously injured doubles, in case of an accident, for occupants who travel in vehicles from 10 to 15 years old, compared to occupants of vehicles less than 5 years old.
For this reason, the DGT includes in its annual calendar of campaigns the monitoring of the proper maintenance of all the safety elements of the vehicle as an essential activity to combat accidents.
The campaign, which will run from Monday to Sunday, June 11, will focus on reviewing the proper maintenance and tuning of tires, brakes, lights and ITV signage and validity, among other elements.
In Cantabria, up to 180 agents of the Traffic Sector of the Civil Guard will be in charge of surveillance on interurban roads, while for urban roads the collaboration of the different local police of the municipalities of Cantabria has been requested.
