In the next few hours, the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration will transfer to its resources in Cantabria a total of 5 people from the contingent of 161 Syrian refugees affected by the earthquake in Turkey on February 6, who have arrived today at the Torrejón de Ardoz air base. It is an operation in which it has been supported by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
In the resources of the system to which these people will be derived, in addition to accommodation and maintenance, it will guarantee the reception through individualized accompaniment itineraries, with supports in the learning of Spanish; legal and labor advice and psychological support. The objective is the full integration into society of refugees, after preparing them to achieve their autonomy.
A contingent of 160 Syrian refugees
This is the second contingent of Syrian refugees, who were in Turkey, in the areas affected by the earthquake of 6 February. It consists of 36 family units. Of the 161 refugees, 47 per cent are women and 46 per cent are minors (mostly under 10 years of age).
In addition, four single-parent families (parent with only dependent children), two pregnant women, three people belonging to the LGTBI community, two girls with disabilities and some medical case that does not require urgent attention have arrived. The largest number of families are composed of 4, 5 and 6 members.
These people were on the border of Turkey with Syria and have been transferred by plane from Istanbul to the air base of Torrejón de Ardoz, from where the entire bypass operation has been coordinated.
